How To Install A Bathroom Faucet – A Step-by-step Guide
Don’t want to make an expensive call to a plumber? Turn a faucet installation into your next DIY project!
Faucet installation is deceptively easy, and you can do it without being a DIY guru. And, it doesn’t even require any advanced tools.
Changing your bathroom faucet is a great way to change its overall look. You can get plenty of faucet styles from your local store or online. However, whatever type you choose, make sure it suits your sink or countertop. Because faucets, like single-piece and split-set, come with different holes and styles.
Regardless of the style, the main structure remains the same, as there would be hot and cold water lines and bolts to fasten it to the sink. Let’s get started!

Steps To Replacing Your Old Faucet

To install a new faucet, you first need to remove the older one carefully. Follow the steps given below.

  • Start by turning off the water supply. The supply valves are right under your sink, transporting hot and cold water. Simply turn them off and drain out any remaining water  from the faucet.install a bathroom faucet
  • Now, you have to disconnect both of them from the faucet. Take out the mounting nuts from the bottom of the sink. In order to reach the problematic areas, you will need a   basin wrench and some lubrication.
  • Don’t forget to disconnect the lift rod if there is one. After that, take out the faucet and check for debris underneath.
  • After you have cleaned it all up, now you can install your new faucet.

Steps To Install A Bathroom Faucet

  • Assemble the Parts of New Faucet

After deciding which facet you want to install, set up the basic structure of it. Make sure that your new faucet has all the parts and is ready for installation.

And, if there is some assembling required, do it according to the given manual. It may vary from faucet to faucet, depending on the type and manufacturer.

If your supply lines are worn out, you can also change them at this stage. Although, many facets come with the supply lines attached.

  • Insert a Faucet through the Hole

  • Through the sinkhole on top, insert the shank of the faucet. The faucets normally come with a gasket that ensures tight fastening and prevents leakage. However, if there is no gasket, you can use a plumber’s putty or caulk. Apply it on the bottom of the faucet, where you will attach it to the sink.
  • Now, secure the faucet beneath the sink using a rubber washer, brass washer, and threaded locknut. You can use your hands to tighten them. For extra surety, use an adjustable wrench.

  • Connect the Water Supply

  • Now, it’s time to reconnect the water supply lines. Connect the hot and cold water supply lines accordingly, as the cold water is on the right side and the hot on the left side. Mildly tighten it with a wrench, but avoid overdoing it.
  • Turn on the water at the shut-off valve once you are done to check the water flow and any leakage.

  • Double Check for Any Leaks

  • Now, everything is set and in place. Remove any debris from the sink and turn on the water for a few moments. Make sure there is no leakage underneath the sink. If you find a leak, tighten the supply line.
